Delta and Northwest
team up for Capitol Hill visit

July 19, 2006
Jerry Grinstein and Northwest CEO Doug
Steenland were on Capitol Hill today,
once again adding their voices to the
chorus of employees and retirees from
both airlines urging passage of
pension reform – with the Senate’s
airline provision – before Congress
adjourns for its August recess.
Grinstein and Steenland met with key
legislators and the media to reiterate
that the airlines are in a race
against time. Both airlines are at a
point in their restructuring where
continuing their plans (for the ground and
flight attendant employee at Delta),
without the needed reform, threatens
the companies’ viability and ability
to exit from bankruptcy. They shared
this information in a joint
letter to
key conference committee members and
Congressional leadership.
As a warm-up for the executive visits
to D.C., people from both airlines did
a one-day fly-in on July 18. For
Delta, 130 retirees and active
employees participated in activities
coordinated by the retirement
committee, DALRC,
and the Delta Board Council. In all they met with
60 Congressional representatives. The
Northwest group was about 250 strong.
Take Action
You can continue contacting your
elected officials to thank them for
their efforts and urge swift passage
of the legislation through
