Note to Pre-merger Delta Non-Pilot Retirees and Pre-merger Northwest Retirees

We understand that an organization of retired Delta pilots known as DP3 is establishing a retiree health plan starting January 1, 2011. While the individuals that make up this organization are Delta pilot retirees, the Company has no association with DP3 or the health plan it is establishing. However, we have been aware that the DP3 organization wished to make a health plan available to pilot retirees that would qualify under federal law for a tax credit (called the Health Coverage Tax Credit or HCTC). The HCTC is available to those between ages 55 and 65 who are being paid a pension from the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC). Since the Delta Pilots Retirement Plan was terminated during bankruptcy and the PBGC now pays benefits under that plan, there are a large number of pre-merger Delta pilot retirees who may benefit from this tax-credit, but can only do so if they participate in a health plan set up to meet certain criteria (which does not include Delta’s retiree health care plan). Accordingly, the Company has provided to DP3 some de-identified information about this pilot group and is cooperating with DP3 in providing mailing addresses for retired pilots to the administrator of the DP3 health plan so that the individuals that may benefit can be notified. Neither the DP3 group nor the representatives of DP3, such as its broker, have access to this pilot information, which was provided exclusively to their administrator.

We have recently been notified that emails and web site postings about this new retiree health plan have indicated that non-pilot retirees of Delta are also eligible for this plan. Delta has not provided any information to the health plan administrators, DP3 group or its advisors about non-pilot Delta retirees or pre-merger Northwest retirees. Therefore, should you get information at your home address about this plan, that contact information was not provided by Delta. If you have questions about their plan options or mailings, contact DP3 directly. Again, Delta is not involved in this plan in any way and has not assessed it at all.
