Action required in Dependent Review
05/26/04
All those who receive a letter from Delta regarding their dependents who are
receiving healthcare and flight benefits will need to respond to the letter
by July 1 to verify their dependents’ eligibility. “We’ve had questions from
those who assumed they just had to verify for themselves, that the
dependents listed in the letter are correct,” said Leon Piper, v.p.-Worldwide
Benefits and Health Resources. “In fact, however, everyone who receives the
letter, including retirees, must mail-in the required documentation, such as
tax records, birth certificates and proof of residency.”
If participants don't respond to the letter or don't submit
sufficient documentation, their dependents will be removed from coverage and
cannot be enrolled for 2005 benefits during the fall open enrollment.
Children who have been reported previously as nondependents are
not part of the review process because they are not eligible for
medical/dental coverage, and they will not be listed in the letter.
Participants who have lost or discarded their letter should
contact the Dependent Review Helpline toll-free at 877-232-4783 and request
a duplicate. Allow 5-10 business days to receive the replacement.
Dependent Eligibility Review
05/18/04
Delta is reviewing all dependents
currently listed as eligible for benefits coverage, including spouses and
domestic partners. The goal of the review is to reduce the company’s cost of
providing benefits by making sure that only those who are eligible are using
Delta benefits. The savings, estimated to be as much as $13 million in
healthcare costs alone, could help offset the increases that all Delta
people, and the company, will pay for healthcare in 2005.
Letters and a personalized eligibility
worksheet will begin arriving the week of May 17th.
